The charity TV show ‘A smile changes life’ broadcast live on VTV1

Hanoi - 26 December 2011, in desire to mobilize generous TV viewers’ continuous sharing and contribution to Operation Smile for children born with facial deformities, MobiFone, Operation Smile and Smart Media organized a meaningful TV show ‘A smile changes life’ broadcast live on VTV1 at 21:15 on 25 December 2011.

The MobiFone-funded charity art show jointly held by Smart Media and Operation Smile is to help the community sympathize and share with children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate materially and spiritually. Participants in this TV program included the first runner-up of Miss Vietnam 2010 Vu Hoang My as Smile Ambassador for Operation Smile Vietnam and popular artists such as musician Quoc Trung, singer Thai Thuy Linh, singer Minh Quan, rock bands named I-teu, Oringchains, Little Monster, etc.

Artists, distinguished guests and guest families were present at the studio very soon to take photos and raise Operation Smile Fund irrespective of cold weather at the end of the year. At 21:15, the TV show broadcast live from Kim Ma Theater made spectators and millions of TV viewers nationwide shed silent tears on watching a reportage on children born with facial deformities. And then, millions of hearts were warmed with faith in the future when those facial deformities have been given a new smile and an opportunity at life. A talk to Doan Thi Thanh Ngan, an 8-year-old girl from a mountainous district of Gia Lai province, who had experienced three reconstructive surgeries to repair cleft lip and palate, lighted up belief in a brighter future as well as opened a chance for thousands of poor and less fortunate children born with facial deformities. Thanks to this talk, millions of Operation Smile’s supporters believed that their dedication was absolutely meaningful and their subscription came to the hands of patients in need of surgery.

On behalf of the Organization Board of Rock Storm - an annually MobiFone-funded famous musical show, musician Quoc Trung declared that the Board decided to offer Operation Smile Fund an amount worth VND 734 million to half the amount collected from selling tickets of Rock Storm Musical Show. MobiFone’s Chief Executive Officer Mai Van Binh presented this gift to Operation Smile Vietnam’s representative - Mr. Greg McFall - Vice Chairman of Consultancy Department.

Mr. Binh announced that MobiFone would accompany with Operation Smile Vietnam in the long term. He also appealed the community’s generosity to raise the Fund of Operation Smile Vietnam through the number 9250. One minute after, over 3000 messages were sent to 9250 and ever increased during the live program, proving its wide and deep impact.

According to Mr. Binh, MobiFone launched this message service to raise fund for this cause. Donors could send their message with content SMILE or NUCUOI to 9250 at charge of VND 10,000 per message. This is a humanitarian action of the community to ease pains and change lives of children with maxillo-facial deformities.

This live TV program was more successful than expected. Right in the night, the hotline 090.488.5555 was always busy with various calls from every corner of the nation, highly appreciating the program and asking for more information about Operation Smile schedule. Many non-MobiFone subcribers were pity that they could not send their message to 9250 to support the cause. Thus, MobiFone representative pledged to make a research to enable non-Mobifone subscribers to use this message service as soon as possible.
